We are proud to be a Sustainable Tourism Certified Company which reaffirms our commitment with the natural resources of Costa Rica, its local communities and our most valuable assets …Our employees.
The Certification in Sustainable Tourism Program – CST – is a product of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT). CST was designed to differentiate tourism sector businesses based on the degree to which they comply with a sustainable model of natural, cultural and social resource management.
CST is regulated by the Costa Rican National Accreditation Commission and consists of a scale of 4 “levels” of sustainable tourism achievement.
1. Physical-biological parameters
Evaluate the interaction between the hotel and its surrounding natural habitat.
2. Infrastructure and services
Evaluate the management policies and operational systems within the hotel and its infrastructure.
3. External clients
Evaluates the interaction of the hotel with its guests in terms of how much it allows, and invites, the guest to be an active contributor to the hotel’s policies of sustainability.
4. Socio-economic environment
Evaluates the interaction of the hotel with local communities and the population in general.
The program of Certification for Sustainable Tourism of the Costa Rican Tourist Board is an excellent tool to assist in the sustainable development of the country.
“Plant-a-Tree Program” for guests, employees & children from the local school, to contribute to reforestation of the area.
We invite hotel guests to get involved in our environmental efforts by planting trees, reciclying, conserving water, electricity, and offering feedback and suggestions. Thank you!
Here are some of our efforts to help the conservancy:
Recycling of paper, glass, aluminum and cardboard is done by staff in all areas of the hotel. Recyclable and refillable bottles are used when possible. We encourage guests to help with the recycling providing separate basquets so they can classify their garbage.
Biodegradable and non-toxic cleaning products are used throughout hotel, and amenities.
Employment of local people. 90% of our staff is from the village of Pilas & San Isidro where Buena Vista is located. Many of our very-local employees have been with Buena Vista since we open.
Regular donations are made to Local Red Cruz, the local school and the Catolic Church.
Energy conservation is practiced by using CFL bulbs that consume 75 percent less energy and produce 75 percent less heat than standard bulbs; using solar panels to provide hot water in the pool and the new Villas. We encourage guests to conserve energy during their stay.
Organic Compost is created at the Hotel from food and garden waste and used on site.
Certification in Sustainable Tourism (CST) program has been awarded to Buena Vista for our efforts to be environmentally, culturally and socially responsible. Through CST, we join forces with others ( Hotels – Travel Agencies- Tour Operators ) to further sustainable development in Costa Rica.
